Wiring that is
tested, labelled
and written down

We are a two-van electrical firm working across Northcote, Harrow Vale and the villages along the eastern ridge. Every job leaves with a legible circuit chart, test results you can read, and a board that the next person can work on safely.

Lanes

What we are called out for

Four lanes of work,
and what each one includes

If your problem is in this list, say which lane in the request form and we will arrive with the right test kit and the likely parts already on the van.

01

Fault finding and repair

A breaker that trips at the same time every evening is telling you something specific. We trace it by splitting the circuit and measuring, not by swapping parts until it stops.

  • Typical symptoms
  • RCD trips when the shower or kettle is used
  • One ring of sockets dead, lights still working
  • Warm or discoloured socket front, or a burning smell
  • Buzzing from the board, or a breaker that will not reset

02

Consumer units and boards

Replacing a board is the point at which the rest of the installation gets honest. We test every circuit first, tell you what the board change will expose, and quote the remedials separately so nothing is a surprise mid-job.

  • Included in a board change
  • Pre-change test of every existing circuit
  • Main bonding to gas and water checked and upgraded if short
  • RCBO protection per circuit, so one fault does not kill the house
  • Printed circuit schedule fixed inside the cover

03

EV charge points

The charger is the easy part. The question is whether your incoming supply, main fuse and earthing arrangement can carry a continuous 7kW load alongside a shower and an oven. We check that before quoting a unit.

  • Survey covers
  • Main fuse rating and available capacity
  • Earthing arrangement and open-PEN protection
  • Cable route, length and where the unit can sensibly sit
  • Load management if the supply is tight

04

Lighting and small works

Extra sockets, outside lights, bathroom extractors, a kitchen relit from scratch. Small jobs still get tested and certified, and we make good rather than leaving you a hole and an apology.

  • Common requests
  • Kitchen and bathroom lighting to the correct zone rating
  • Outside lights and sockets on their own protected circuit
  • Dimming that actually works with the lamps you own
  • Additional sockets where extension leads have taken over

On the day

How a visit
actually runs

Four steps, in this order, on every job from a single socket to a full rewire.

  1. 01

    Arrival and walk-round

We confirm what you have described, find the board, and agree where we will work and what needs covering or moving before we start.

  2. 02

    Isolation and dead testing

Power off to the affected circuits only, proven dead, and locked off. You will know in advance roughly how long the supply will be down.

  3. 03

    The work, then live testing

Once the work is done we re-energise and test: loop impedance, RCD timing, polarity, and continuity. If a reading is wrong, it gets fixed before we pack up.

  4. 04

    Handover and paperwork

We walk you through what changed, label the board, tidy and vacuum the area, and issue the certificate with the test results filled in rather than left blank.

Choosing lighting

Four things worth
deciding before
we lift a floorboard

Most disappointing lighting is a specification problem, not an installation problem. These are the decisions that matter, in plain terms.

Decide the switching first

How many separate groups do you want to control in the room? Splitting a kitchen into worktop, table and general light costs almost nothing while the floor is up, and a fortune afterwards.

Match the dimmer to the lamp

Flickering and buzzing at low brightness is usually a trailing-edge dimmer paired with the wrong driver. Tell us the lamps you want and we will specify a dimmer that suits them.

Respect the wet zones

Bathrooms and shower rooms have zones with minimum ratings. A fitting you like may be legal above a bath but not inside the shower enclosure, and we will say so before you buy it.

Keep outside light separate

Garden and security lighting on its own protected circuit means a wet fitting in February trips the garden, not the hallway you are standing in.

Visits

Visit types

What each kind
of visit covers

Choose the closest match in the form below. If you are not sure, describe the problem and we will tell you which one you need.

Visit types, duration and paperwork issued
Visit Typical duration What you get Paperwork
Diagnostic Up to 2 hours Fault traced and isolated, temporary safe arrangement if the repair needs parts, written explanation of the cause Findings note and a fixed quote for the repair
Repair or small works Half day Agreed repair completed, circuit tested and re-energised, area made good Minor works certificate
Condition report (EICR) 3 to 5 hours for a typical house Every circuit inspected and tested, observations coded by severity, priorities explained in order Full EICR with schedules of inspection and test results
Board change One day New board with per-circuit protection, bonding checked, circuits re-identified and labelled Installation certificate and circuit schedule
EV supply survey Around 1 hour Supply capacity, earthing and cable route assessed, unit options narrowed to what your supply supports Survey summary and fixed installation quote
Rewire Planned by room, usually staged Agreed programme room by room, power maintained where possible, daily tidy and dust control Installation certificate, schedules and as-built circuit chart

Durations are indicative for a typical three-bedroom property. The price is agreed in writing before work begins and does not change unless you ask for additional work.

Request a visit

Tell us what
is happening

The more specific you are about when the fault appears, the faster we find it. We reply with a visit window and a fixed price, or a question if something is unclear.

If anything is sparking, smoking or hot to touch, switch off at the board and do not wait for a reply.

Q&A

Questions we are asked

Before you book

01

Do I need a certificate for a small job?

Any addition or alteration to a circuit gets a minor works certificate, even a single socket. It records the test results for that circuit on that day, which matters when you sell, remortgage or let the property. There is no extra charge for it.

02

I am letting the property — what do I actually have to do?

You need a satisfactory condition report on the fixed wiring, renewed periodically and at change of tenancy if the report requires it, with a copy given to the tenant. If the report comes back unsatisfactory, the coded items must be put right and evidence of the remedial work kept. We quote remedials itemised by code so you can see what is urgent and what is advisory.

03

The house has old wiring. Does it all have to be replaced?

Usually not. Old does not mean dangerous — it means it needs testing. Rubber or fabric-insulated cable and rewireable fuse boards are the two things that genuinely tend to need replacing. Sound cable in good condition behind a modern board can have years left in it, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a rewire.

04

Will the power be off all day?

Rarely. For most repairs we isolate one circuit and the rest of the house carries on. A board change means a full shutdown, typically four to six hours, and we tell you the morning window in advance so you can plan around fridges, freezers, and anyone working from home.

05

Can my supply take a car charger?

Often yes, but it depends on your main fuse rating and what else draws heavily at the same time. Where capacity is tight, load management that pauses or throttles the charger when the shower or oven is running is usually cheaper and quicker than applying for a supply upgrade. The survey tells you which situation you are in.

06

How much damage will the decoration take?

We plan routes to use lofts, floor voids and existing runs wherever possible, and we agree any chasing with you before cutting. Chases are filled and floorboards are refixed; we do not take on final plastering or painting, so you will want a decorator after a larger job and we will say so at quote stage.

07

Do I buy the fittings or do you?

Either. Protective devices, cable and accessories come from us so we can stand behind them. Decorative fittings are usually nicer if you choose them — send us the product page before you order and we will check the rating, driver and zone suitability.

08

What happens if you have to move my appointment?

Occasionally a genuine emergency overruns and someone has to be moved. If that is you, you hear from us the day before rather than on the morning, and you get first choice of the next available slot.
